About Me

My name is Kayla Buckley and I am a graduate-level clinician here at Ashe Counseling and Coaching. My clients would describe me as warm, understanding, and consistent. My goal as a therapist is to provide my client's with a space that fosters safety, security and comfortability. I believe that the client is the expert in their own lives and my role as the therapist is to aid in the processing and understanding one's thoughts, feelings, behaviors and life experiences. My practice is heavily based on Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Feminist Therapy. I incorporate these approaches into session based on client's needs. I have experience in working with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, trauma processing and attachment. I was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. I pursued my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. After completing my B.S., I moved back to Chicago and obtained my M.A in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University, in August 2023. My professional work includes completing a year of clinical internship at Ashe Counseling and Coaching. When I am not at work, you can find me coaching my high school level competitive cheerleading team. I am very passionate about, not only coaching a sport I love, but connecting with young women and being a positive representation for them. On my free time, I enjoy shopping, listening to music and spending time with loved ones.

Why did you decide to become a counselor ?

I decided to become a counselor because of my beliefs in representation. The stigma of therapy and mental health within minorities communities is an issue that I am passion about. My passion stems from wanting to break down those barriers and stigmas, by being a positive representation of minority involvement within the field.

What types of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with minority women (18+). This community holds a special place in my heart because I, myself, identity as such. I want to aid other minority women to look inside and become the best versions of themselves.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That they are not just a number and therapist care about their thoughts, feelings and experiences!

Why did you choose to practice at Ashe Counseling?

I choose to practice at Ashe Counseling and Coaching due to my positive experience during my internship. It did not take long for me to feel connected and accepted within the space and that made me confident that Ashe would be a great fit for me.
