About Me

I’m Tyler, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Ashe Counseling and Coaching. Most people describe me as passionate, joyful, easy to talk to, and funny. My clients would describe me as relatable, grounded, flexible, calming, and a great listener. I strive to create safe spaces to help individuals heal and grow to reach their full potential and live their best quality of life. My goal in therapy is to always meet people where they are and help them take steps to get to where they want to be. My approach is holistic as I believe all aspects of life are connected. I aim to collaborate with individuals to create plans that fit their needs in their current stage of life. I incorporate various therapy approaches when treating individuals which include Trauma Focused, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused, and Strengths-Based. I was born in and raised in Chicago, IL. I attended college in Wisconsin, where I received a bachelor's degree in Psychology. Later, I returned to my roots and moved back to Chicago, where I pursued a Master of Social Work degree from UIC. My professional background has included being a residential treatment counselor/case manager. I have worked as a therapist/ case manager for families involved with DCFS and the juvenile justice system. Most recently I have worked as a therapist in schools and for teens and families in partial hospitalization.

In my spare time you can find me reading a good book, binging Netflix, trying new recipes in the kitchen, trying new restaurants, spending time with my family and exploring new places. I also love R&B music, comedy shows, expressive arts, and brunch!

Why did you decide to become a social worker ?

I wanted to change the narratives and cultural stigmas around therapy and counseling for those that look like me. I want people to understand the seeking help outside yourself is OK. You don't have to hold it all alone.

What types of clients are you most excited to work with?

I'm most excited to work with individuals who may not be convinced that therapy is right for them. At times I do like a challenge. However I also excited to work with people who want to better understand themselves and are ready to jump in and get the work done. Lets see where we go.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Boundaries in all areas of your life are important and they are necessary for growth.

Why did you choose to practice at Ashe Counseling?

I chose to practice at Ashe because Ashe gives access to services for people who might not have the privilege to access quality mental health services otherwise
